IUCN’s is involved in PEBLA, a GIZ project that aims to strengthen the management of Algerian marine and coastal protected areas (MPAs) through the use and implementation of the IUCN Green List Standard for Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs). The IUCN Green List is a certification scheme for Protected and Conserved Areas that are effectively managed and equitably governed.

Part of this project calls for the preparation of a methodological guide to assist the management planning process of marine and coastal protected areas and conserved areas in Algeria. The structure of this guide will be based on the Green List Standard for Protected and Conserved Areas and in particular on the Green List criteria. For each criterion, it aims to provide guidance, good practices and case studies relevant to the context of MPAs in Algeria. Its contents should be synthetic, illustrative and operational.
