Project leader: CHORUS Institute – France

MPA: Calanques National Park, Natural Marine Park of the Gulf of Lion, Tavolara Punta Coda Cavallo MPA

Theme: Improving the efficiency of MPA management in an integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) approach.

Background: The corb (Sciaena umbra) is listed as an endangered species by IUCN and has been considered vulnerable since 2011 in the Mediterranean. Monitoring must therefore be implemented to evaluate the corb population, its dynamics, establish its spatio-temporal distribution and identify the sensitive sites on which it is necessary to carry out particular management efforts.

Project objective: Define and transfer a standardized and replicable tool for passive acoustic monitoring of corb (spatio-temporal distribution, breeding sites, population dynamics) in MPAs. The tool will be developed for and tested in 3 MPAs.

Duration: 12 months
