The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and its partners are organising the second edition of the Monaco Ocean Week, from 8 to 14 April 2018. Intended to find solutions to protect the marine environment, especially in the face of the challenges of climate change, the event opened on Monday 9 April in Edinburgh with the Monaco Blue Initiative, and continues throughout the Principality.

Workshops, symposiums, awards ceremonies, exhibitions, documentary film screenings, awareness-raising workshops … will be held until April 14 at the Oceanographic Museum, the Monaco Scientific Center, the Monaco Yacht Club and the Stars’ N’Bars. They will bring together local and international experts, the scientific community, associations, economic actors and public authorities, around a single objective: raise awareness and commitment to the protection of the ocean.

Friday 13 April will be dedicated to the financing of conservation with an experience exchange workshop on environmental funds in the presence of many environmental funds and international donors. The initiative for the Trust Fund for Mediterranean MPAs led by the M2PA association  will be center stage the rest of the day with the presentations and official signatures of several initiatives or partnerships to support the fund:

  • “Towards the creation of an Environmental Fund for Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas”, a joint initiative supported by the Government of Monaco, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the FFEM .
  • “Long-term financial mechanism to enhance Mediterranean MPA management effectiveness”, a project supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF)
  • A partnership with the Monaco Oceanographic Institute to mobilise aquariums and zoos for the benefit of Mediterranean MPAs
